I live and work in the Black Hills of western South Dakota and have for a sizable portion of my life. The central core of the Black Hills is granite: ancient granite, weathered and rounded by unimaginable time. The surrounding terrain is limestone and sandstone, remnants of a prehistoric seafloor pushed skyward by the granite core of the hills as it punctured the skin of the earth. Wildlife is abundant. Trees and flowers are everywhere. Hot in the summer. Fiercely cold in winter. Seasonal changes are dramatic. A photographer's paradise. My paradise.
